Questions
Hosting
What do I need to host a server?
A PC with Windows 10 or 11, a LanWarp account and enough free memory for the server. The app suggests how much memory to give it. LanWarp downloads Java and the server files.
Does the server run when my PC is off?
No. The server runs on your PC, so it is reachable only while your PC is on and the server is started in LanWarp.
Can I keep LanWarp running in the background?
Yes. When you close the window, LanWarp can stay open in the background, in the Windows notification area. You choose this the first time you close it, and you can change it in the settings.
Which server types can I create?
Paper (recommended) and Vanilla. On Plus and Pro you can also create servers with mods from Modrinth modpacks, on Fabric or NeoForge.
Can I move a server to another PC?
Yes. Copy the server folder and open LanWarp with the same account on the new PC. The steps are in the guide.
Does LanWarp work on Mac or Linux?
Not yet. Today the app is for Windows 10 and 11. Versions for Mac and Linux will arrive in the future.
Players
What do players need?
Minecraft: Java Edition and the server address. They add it in Multiplayer, like any other server. They don’t install anything else.
Can Bedrock Edition players join?
Not yet. We’re working on it: cross-play with Bedrock Edition will arrive in a coming update.
Why can’t a player join?
The most common reason is the whitelist: new servers start with it on, so add the player’s name in the Players tab of the app. Also check that the server is started and that the player is using the full address.
Do players see my IP address?
No. Players connect to a LanWarp relay. They see the relay’s address, not your home IP.
Plans and account
How do I sign in?
With a 6-digit code sent to your email, or with Discord or Google. There is no password.
Can I change my address?
On the Free plan the address is random. On Plus and Pro you choose the name. The zone in the address stays the same.
How do I delete my account?
From your account page, or from the app. Deleting the account also deletes your servers, their addresses and the copies of your worlds in the cloud. It can’t be undone.
Privacy and security
Is my server reachable from the internet?
Not directly. The Minecraft server on your PC only accepts connections from your own computer. Players reach it through the relay, over a connection your PC opens.
Can the relay read what players do?
The relay reads the address the player typed. After that, Minecraft encrypts the connection between the player and your server, and the relay forwards it unchanged.
What data does LanWarp keep?
Your email or Discord or Google account, your servers and addresses, and IP addresses for security, kept for 60 days. The full list is in the Privacy Policy.
How do I report a server?
Use the report form with the server address and what is wrong.
